Moss & Weed Control
Targeted treatments for a healthier, cleaner lawn
Moss and weeds are two of the most common problems I’m asked to sort out, especially in gardens around Cheltenham, where we often have heavy clay soils, shady spots, and plenty of moisture. If you’ve got patches of moss or weeds creeping across your lawn, you're not alone, and the good news is, there are safe, effective ways to deal with both.
Tackling Moss: Safe & Eco-Friendly Options
Moss thrives in damp, compacted lawns—especially where light is limited. It can smother your grass and stop it thriving, but the key is to remove it gently and stop it coming back.
My go-to solution: Mo Bacter
This is a brilliant natural moss treatment that feeds your lawn while gently breaking down the moss.
-
No raking needed – moss is broken down biologically
-
Pet and child safe
-
Feeds the grass at the same time
-
Best applied in spring or early autumn, often alongside scarification or aeration
It’s a much more lawn-friendly approach than harsh blackening sprays—and part of why I use it for many of my regular clients.

Weed Control: Keeping Broadleaf Weeds in Check
From daisies and dandelions to clover and speedwell, lawn weeds can quickly spread and ruin the look and health of your grass.
For this, I use: Dicophar Selective Weed Killer
-
Targets broadleaf weeds without harming your grass
-
Ideal in late spring or early summer, once weeds are actively growing
-
Safe for domestic lawns when used correctly
In most cases, one or two treatments will make a big difference, especially when combined with regular mowing and feeding to encourage thicker grass growth (which naturally suppresses weeds).
When is the best time to treat?
-
Moss: Early spring or autumn, when growth is active and moisture levels help Mo Bacter do its job
-
Weeds: Late spring or summer, when weeds are growing strongly and easier to knock back
-
Combined treatment plans often work best, especially when followed by feeding or overseeding

Professional Application Makes a Difference
I don’t just spray and walk away. Every treatment I offer is tailored to your lawn’s condition, and I’ll often combine moss control with other services like scarifying, aeration, or seasonal feeding for better results.
