How Much Does Professional Lawn Care Cost?

One of the questions I'm asked most often is, "How much does professional lawn care cost?" It's a sensible question, but unlike general garden maintenance, lawn care isn't usually charged by the hour. Most professional lawn care programmes are priced according to the size of the lawn and the treatments required, ensuring each customer receives a programme that's tailored to their garden.
Every lawn is different, so I don't believe in one-size-fits-all treatment packages. I assess each lawn individually, taking into account its size, condition and how it's used before recommending a tailored programme. That way, you only pay for the treatments your lawn genuinely needs.
What Affects the Cost?
Several factors influence the cost of lawn care.
These include:
The size of the lawn.
The current condition of the grass.
Whether moss or weeds require treatment.
The level of soil compaction.
Whether scarification, aeration or overseeding are needed.
Access to the garden.
The number of visits required throughout the year.
Every lawn is unique, so every quotation reflects the work involved.
My Lawn Care Programme
For many customers, I recommend a four-visit annual lawn care programme, with each visit timed to suit the changing seasons.
This typically includes:
Seasonal fertiliser applications.
Lawn health assessments.
Weed control where required.
Moss treatments if needed.
Advice on mowing, watering and ongoing care.
Additional treatments such as scarification, aeration and overseeding are recommended only if the lawn would genuinely benefit from them.
How Is a Lawn Care Programme Priced?
Unlike my general garden maintenance service, which is charged at £35 per hour including VAT (with a minimum visit of two hours), my lawn care programmes are priced according to the size of the lawn and the treatments required.
This allows me to tailor the programme to each garden. A small, healthy lawn requires far less treatment than a larger lawn with moss, weeds or compaction, so every quotation is based on the individual lawn rather than a one-size-fits-all package.
Following an initial assessment, I'll recommend the most appropriate programme and provide a clear quotation before any work begins.
Is Professional Lawn Care Good Value?
That depends on what you're hoping to achieve.
If you enjoy mowing your own lawn and simply want occasional advice, you may only need a few specialist treatments each year.
If you're looking for a consistently healthy lawn without having to worry about seasonal timings, products or equipment, a regular lawn care programme can often save both time and money over the long term.
The aim isn't simply to improve how the lawn looks today. It's to keep it healthier year after year.
Can I Still Maintain My Own Lawn?
Absolutely.
Many of my customers continue mowing their own lawns while I provide the technical treatments that only need carrying out a few times each year.
It's a partnership.
You enjoy the satisfaction of looking after your lawn, while I provide the specialist knowledge and seasonal treatments that help it perform at its best.
Every Lawn Is Different
One thing I've learnt over the years is that no two lawns require exactly the same approach.
A newly laid lawn has different needs from one that's fifty years old. Clay soils behave differently from lighter soils, and shaded gardens require different maintenance from those in full sun.
That's why I always prefer to assess the lawn first rather than offering a standard package that may not suit your garden.
From Marcus
I've never believed in selling treatments simply because they're on a list. Every recommendation I make starts with one question: Will this genuinely improve the customer's lawn? Sometimes the answer is a complete renovation. Sometimes it's simply adjusting the mowing height or applying the right fertiliser at the right time. Honest advice builds better lawns, and it also builds long-term relationships with customers.
