How to Get Rid of Weeds in Your Lawn

There’s nothing quite as frustrating as seeing weeds popping up in your lawn just as it’s starting to look its best. Whether it’s dandelions, daisies, or creeping plantains, they always seem to find a way through.

Why do weeds keep coming back?
Weeds are incredibly resilient. Many produce thousands of seeds that spread easily on the wind, by pets, or via your mower. Some, like dandelions, have deep tap roots that regenerate if not fully removed.
What’s the best way to tackle lawn weeds?
1. Hand weeding
If you’ve only got a few weeds here and there, removing them by hand is effective. Make sure you pull out the entire root to prevent regrowth.
2. Selective weed killer
For larger infestations, using a selective lawn weed killer like Dicophar is the most efficient approach. These products target broadleaf weeds without harming your grass.
When to apply:
Ideally during spring or early summer when weeds are actively growing.
Avoid mowing for three days before and after treatment to maximise effectiveness.
Apply on a dry, still day to prevent drift and allow the product to work properly.
3. Encourage a strong, healthy lawn
Regular feeding, aeration, and scarification strengthen your lawn, making it less prone to weed invasion. Healthy grass competes better and leaves little room for weeds to establish.
What about moss?
While moss isn’t technically a weed, it competes with grass for space. Treat moss separately using Mo Bacter for moss control, especially in spring or autumn.
