Late Spring Lawn Care: Getting Your Lawn Summer-Ready

As May turns into June, lawns are growing quickly and looking their best – but this is also the time when they need regular care to stay healthy through summer.

Why is late spring important for lawn care?
Warmer temperatures and longer days mean grass is growing at full speed. It’s the perfect time to feed, mow properly, and deal with any remaining moss or weeds before the summer heat arrives.
Key late spring lawn care tasks
1. Mowing regularly
Mow at least once a week, or more often if growth is vigorous. Avoid cutting too short – aim to remove no more than a third of the grass height at each cut. For mowing tips, visit my Lawn Care Services page.
2. Feeding
If you haven’t fed your lawn yet this season, now is the time. Apply a spring fertiliser such as Johnson Lawn Care Direct Spring Surge Pro to boost growth and colour before summer stress arrives.
3. Weed control
Late spring is ideal for tackling broadleaf weeds with a selective weed killer like Dicophar. For persistent weed problems, see my Moss and Weed Control page.
4. Scarifying and aerating
If you didn’t scarify or aerate in early spring, there’s still time before hot weather arrives. This helps reduce thatch and compaction, improving drainage and root health. Learn more about Lawn Scarification and Lawn Aeration services.
5. Overseeding thin patches
For any bare or thin areas, overseeding now will help your lawn thicken up before summer. Visit my Overseeding & Lawn Repairs page for more advice.
